Downtown Area Fire Lanes - Do Not Obstruct

There have been multiple complaints submitted to the Opelika Fire Department concerning parked vehicles obstructing the fire lanes, particularly in the Historical Downtown Opelika area. Therefore, the OFD would like to bring to your attention, Chapter 9 - Fire Prevention and Protection, Article IV Fire Lanes, Sec. 9-51, of the City of Opelika Code of Ordinances.

Sec. 9-51 states the following: "It shall be unlawful for any person to park a motor vehicle in any fire lane which has been established and clearly marked by painting the curb and pavement and by posting signs designating the same as a fire lane."

In order to enforce this ordinance, the OFD has informed the Opelika Police Department of the situation. OPD will be conducting routine patrols in the near future and will be issuing citations to vehicles in violation of this ordinance.
