“We have state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the Auburn-Opelika area. They are clean, high-tech spaces that our science, technology, engineering and math students could ultimately work for in the future. These jobs are in high demand, require highly-skilled workers and offer excellent pay,” said Darin Baldwin, PhD, Dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development for Southern Union State Community College. “Our goal is to connect our high school students to these career paths so they know what opportunities are available.”

On Friday, high school seniors from 13 local high schools and two career technical centers toured local manufacturing companies. Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller and Auburn Mayor Bill Ham celebrated local industries by signing proclamations and hosting tours. Mayor Fuller hosted his event at Mando, and Mayor Ham hosted his event at Donaldson.

Following the tours, the students completed their day at the Southern Union campus in Opelika in the Southern Room with a panel discussion.
