Opelika Power Services (OPS) recently received the Platinum Level Electric Cities of Georgia Award for Safety Excellence. This award is an honor given to municipal utilities departments that meet various criteria regarding safety in the workplace.
To achieve the standard required by this award, Utilities departments submit an application that documents their commitment to safety and participate in an on-site safety audit which includes individual employee interviews. Some of the topics that are judged in the application process include:
- Employee Safety Awareness
- Training & Education
- Regularly Documented Safety Meetings
- Accident Investigation Procedures
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Protective Devices
- Facilities and availability of safety equipment on site.
- Employee Procedures
- Management Participation and more
Brent Poteet, Director of OPS, stated that, “ECG has been a great safety and training partner for OPS. This award is truly a team effort and a good measure of our overall safety program as an organization”.
ECG and The Georgia Electrical Municipal Safety Task Force recognizes the cities and municipal organizations who exhibit an ongoing commitment to safety and whose department has applied and demonstrated procedures to ensure the safety of their staff.
