The City of Opelika held a special election to renew and continue the annual levy and collection of the 11 mill property tax for the support and furtherance of education in the Opelika City Schools. The tax renewal passed and the unofficial election results are as follows:

Dr. Farrell Seymore, Superintendent of Opelika City Schools and Mayor Gary Fuller were both pleased with the results.
"On behalf of Opelika City Schools, I want to personally thank our community for voting to renew the 11-mill property tax. The renewal of this tax will ensure that our schools receive strong community funding to benefit our students for another generation," said Dr. Seymore.
Mayor Fuller added, "Our schools success in programs like band, choral, technology, career tech and more depend on this tax renewal. I’m pleased that the renewal passed and want to thank the people of our great community for coming out to support Opelika City Schools. We all win as a result!"
The Opelika City Council will hold a Special City Council meeting on March 7, 2023 at 12 p.m. (Noon) at the Municipal Court Building at 300 MLK Boulebard, Opelika, Alabama. This special meeting is called to canvass the returns and declare the results of the February 28, 2023, Special Municipal Election. The meeting is open to the public.
