The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has authorized Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. (Wood) to abandon a total of 33 groundwater wells as part of closure activities under the Alabama Tank Trust Fund program. Thirteen of the 33 groundwater wells are located within the right-of-way (ROW) of First Avenue and the access roads adjacent to the Tenth Street overpass. This release includes a schedule of work related to work within ROW.
Monday, September 10:
- Closure of the one-way access road adjacent to and west of the 10th Street overpass.
- Work within the ROW completed by around noon.
- Work will continue on wells outside the ROW until the end of the day.
Tuesday, September 11:
- Closure of the one-way access road adjacent to and east of the 10th Street overpass.
- Work within the ROW completed by around noon.
- Again, work will continue on wells outside the ROW until the end of the day.
Wednesday, September 12:
- Closure of the outside lane of First Avenue South (westbound).
- Work within the ROW completed by around noon.
- Work will continue on wells outside the ROW and removal of the remediation system (on private property) until the end of the day.
