The City of Opelika has several road updates for the community.
Frederick Road/South Long:
Roadwork at the four-way stop at Frederick Road and South Long is almost complete. Contractors will begin striping the road and remove the stop signs on Frederick Road today. A traffic control change will then begin. Frederick Road traffic will no longer be required to stop at the intersection. Temporary message boards will remain in place to help notify drivers. South Long will maintain stop signs. Please slow down and be cautious until everyone is familiar with the change.
Tiger Town Roundabout:
The four-way stop at Interstate and Hamilton/Enterprise will be converted to a roundabout beginning Monday, August 6. The contractor will put out barrels that act as a roundabout during construction. There will be ongoing work and delays, but traffic will not be detoured or stopped. If no unforeseen circumstances arise, the project completion date is set for early Fall.
Cunningham Bridge:
Contractors continue to make excellent progress on Cunningham Bridge, as shown in the photos below. They will begin pouring bridge deck sections this week. Following this, they will complete the barrier rail, water line and roadway approach work. The bridge project is on schedule with anticipated completion of early Fall.
