The City of Opelika contractor will be preparing the final paving of the Frederick Road extension from South Long Street to the new roundabout at Auburn Street and M L King Boulevard. Milling on Frederick Road to tie in the new surface will begin later this week and the paving is expected to begin Thursday, July 19. This paving will also be performed on M L King Boulevard to the railroad tracks and Auburn Street to Avenue B. The roadways will be open to traffic, but it will be limited to one lane and controlled by flaggers and/or pilot cars. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and patience as the paving is in progress.
As part of the completion of the roadway extension of Frederick Road, there is a planned traffic control change that will be implemented at the intersection of Frederick Road and South Long Street. Once the paving is completed, the stop signs on Frederick Road will be removed and South Long Street will be the only street that stops at the intersection of Frederick Road. Frederick Road traffic will no longer be required to stop at that intersection. The contractor will be placing permanent warning signs and temporary message boards on South Long Street to notify the drivers. Another traffic change in their area will be the closure of Auburn Street at the South Long intersection. Access to the southwest section of Auburn Street by the cemetery will only have access from the roundabout.
This work is scheduled to take seven to 10 days to complete.
