On 12/01/2021 at approximately 1:30 AM, the Opelika Police Department responded to a Criminal Trespass Complaint in the 500 Block of Lori Lane. Officers located an individual matching the description walking on Gateway Drive near Gwynne’s Way. The suspect, Patrick Wayne Torbert, 55 yoa from Opelika, AL, had outstanding warrants through the Opelika Police Department for Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle. When Officers searched Patrick Torbert they located several pairs of sunglasses, jewelry and miscellaneous items in his possession. Upon investigation, it was determined that several vehicles had been broken into on Lori Lane and Patrick Torbert had possession of items that had been stolen from those vehicles. Patrick Torbert was arrested for the two outstanding warrants for Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and for the recent break-ins he committed prior to officers’ arrival. More charges for additional vehicle break-ins may be forthcoming. This case remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Department.
