The city of Opelika has found several accounts of vandalism to its new ADA compliant sidewalks. The contractors are discovering initials and explicit illustrations in the freshly poured concrete. These careless acts are slowing down projects, costing the city additional dollars, diminishing newly paved sidewalk quality, and contractors are spending more than 20 extra hours a week repaving. We are asking the community to speak with family and friends. If you see something, please call the police department at 334-705-5200. Opelika Police Department is aware of the situation and will be checking construction zones frequently. For more information, please contact Kevin Rice, ADA Coordinator at [email protected].
