During Work Session on March 2, 2021, the council discussed an ordinance that will hold landlords in the city accountable for ensuring rental properties are livable for Opelika residents. This ordinance will require landlords to register their rental properties with the city and be held to city code standards before properties can be rented. There will be further discussion of the proposed ordinance at the next council meeting.
Below is a powerpoint that breaks down the ordinance into easy to understand information, the proposed ordinance and the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code that the city currently follows.
