Starting Wednesday, February 24, 2021, the Opelika Environmental Services recycling centers will not be accepting cardboard due to a facility closure because of Covid-19 complications.
The Lee County facility that our cardboard is taken to will be closed for at least 30 days. The City of Opelika will let residents know when they will begin accepting cardboard again at the Jeter and 8th Avenue Recycling Convenience Centers.
Since the cardboard trailers will not be available, the department asks residents to please not throw their cardboard on the ground. If they have the ability to save their cardboard, please do so. If it has to go in the trash for the time being, we understand.
Luckily, this does not impact our curbside customers because our curbside recycling trucks are sent to a different facility. If residents have any questions, please call 334-705-5480.
