Citizens need to remember not throw anything in the toilet that doesn’t belong there because it is backing up our waste water pumps. This is a picture of one of waste water pump in the last few days. They are pictures of flushable wipes that are not really flushable. They may go down the drain but they do not break down like toilet paper.
Sewage systems depend on gravity and water flow to move toilet paper and waste, and they are not designed to accommodate disinfectant wipes and paper towels which do not break down as easily and they clog the wastewater pumps and collection lines.
PLEASE DEPOSIT THESE ITEMS IN A WASTE RECEPTACLE. Thank you, Opelika Public Works Director Mike Hilyer
