OPELIKA, Ala – Beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2020, a contractor for the City of Opelika will be replacing drainage structures on Columbus Parkway between South 4th Street and South 6th Street.
Columbus Parkway will be closed to through traffic along this section of roadway as well as the East Johnson Street at the intersection of Columbus Parkway.
A short detour will be signed and activated that will route traffic along Avenue E as the detour for Columbus Parkway. Local traffic on East Johnson should plan to use the McCoy Street access.
This project is scheduled to take several weeks depending on weather and patience is requested from the public. A map of this detour route is provided.
For more information, contact City Engineer Scott Parker, [email protected].
Update: Columbus Parkway will remain under detour for the duration of the project. Local access to Thornton Animal Hospital, Crawford Automotive Repair and residence is available through the detour signs and barricades at South 6th Street. If needed, the contractor can make and place signs on the barricade at S. 6th noting these commercial establishments.
