On October 14, 2019, Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller, Human Resources Director Lisa McLeod and Planning Director Matt Mosley accepted the Public Service Award from the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services for exceptional contributions on matters affecting people with disabilities.
This award displays the city’s continued dedication to making all areas of Opelika accessible to citizens and visitors. This allows everyone to enjoy the many amenities and events our lovely city has to offer.
About a year ago, the City of Opelika began working on a long-term ADA self-evaluation/transition plan. We set out to become the safest, most business and family friendly city in America by 2023. As a part of this plan, all city sidewalks, buildings, programs and services must become ADA compliant.
