[ARCHIVED] OPELIKA INTERSECTION MODIFICATIONS DUE TO CONDUCTED TRAFFIC COUNTS

After the Engineering Department’s conducted traffic counts analysis at the following intersections, modifications will be made to support the changing volumes in traffic.

The intersection of Oak Bowery and Veterans Parkway does not have the volumes or left turn movements to warrant a signal. When Veterans Parkway was constructed, it was anticipated that there would be more traffic from north Opelika and the Morris Avenue area utilizing the signal/intersection as evident of the large turn lanes. In response to the analysis, the intersection will become a three-way stop.

Due to the relocation of businesses, traffic patterns at the intersection of South 10th Street and Avenue C have changed over the past decades. There is evidence of little to no conflicting turns on Avenue C that cannot be given a gap by the signal at Avenue B and South 10th Street. Therefore, the signal at Avenue C and South 10th Street will be removed and replaced with a two-way stop on Avenue C.

Weather permitting, Public Works crews will begin working on the intersections improvements next Thursday and Friday (September 5-6).
