February 2, 2021 City Council Meeting

Posted on February 4, 2021 at 4:13 PM by Taylor McAllister

Hello Friends,

This past city council meeting I had the privilege of recognizing recently retired Opelika Fire Department Chief Prather for his many years of dedication and service to the Opelika community. He will be missed but we wish him the best of luck in his next chapter of life!

Chief Prather's Retirement During Mayor's Remarks at City Council

During Work Session,
I made the motion to take off the 2nd reading of Amending Section 19-495 Code of Ordinances. Which was about the removal of the nuisance vultures behind the Opelika Middle School. My administration and Opelika City Schools is in touch with some professionals for advice on the nicest way to do so.

During Resolutions, the council approved the agreement with Critical Insights Consulting, the Emergency Medical Care Mutual Aid agreement and the council approved the Chief of Police’s request for new job classifications, job descriptions, adjustments to pay plan and organizational chart.

During Ordinances, the first reading of the request for the amendment of Section 16-188. This will allow the change of speed limits in school zones from 25 mph to 20 mph which will protect our students.

Our February city character word is Integrity which is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

I wish you all a safe and productive week!
