October 5, 2021 Opelika City Council Meeting

Posted on October 8, 2021 at 9:48 AM by Taylor McAllister

I had some great people to brag about this week at city council during my remarks. It makes me swell up with pride to see our Opelika City Schools students succeed in education and extracurriculars. This week I congratulated Will Randolph as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships.  Approximately 1.5 million students enter the program each year and in September they choose approximately 16,000 semifinalists across the United States who have excelled in their academics. I am so proud of Will and how he has represented our community. We can't wait to hear if he makes finalist in February!

Will Randolph National Merit Scholarship Finalist at Council Meeting

My final remark Tuesday was about an employee near and dear to me, my administrative assistant Mrs. Barbara Arrington. She truly keeps this city afloat and has a servant's heart. Mrs. Barbara is quick to go out of her way to assist any and all departments in times of need and is known for getting people organized. When our fire department was out of an administrative assistant, she took it upon herself to help the interim chief and new fire chief get things in order before the new hire came. This is just one of many acts that show Ms. Barbara's good character.
