The Opelika Fire Department recently re-instituted their public outreach efforts regarding free smoke alarm installation/emergency preparedness for Opelika residents. In the past, the department had partnered with the American Red Cross’s, Sound the Alarm, program, until the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions brought it to a close. This year, OFD reached out to the Alabama Fire College in order to coordinate with their, Get Alarmed, Alabama, smoke alarm initiative. Residents of Opelika can now contact the fire department and request smoke alarm installation/replacement. This program is gaining momentum again with the help of local news outlets and through the department’s social media platforms.
