The election for Mayor and the five (5) city council positions is every four (4) years. The qualifications to run for Mayor or the City Council is listed below:
Mayor (elected at large):
- Must be 18 years of age and a registered voter for the City of Opelika.
- Must live in the city limits of Opelika at least 90 days prior to the election.
City Council (elected by Ward):
- Must be 18 years of age and a registered voter for the City of Opelika.
- Must live in the specific City Council Ward you are running for at least 90 days prior to the election.
