Pertinent Bicycle Laws
- Azalea Trail Ride
A group ride through Opelika's Azalea Trail. The timing of the ride varies due to the inconsistent nature of azalea blooms in Alabama, but it typically takes place in April.
- National Bike Month
May is National Bike Month, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast.
- SportsPlex Tri for Kids
A swim/bike/run event for children ages 6-15. Distances vary based on age. Children ages 2-5 may participate in a Small Fry Tri held the same day. Typically held the first week in August.
- Johnny Ray Century
The Johnny Ray Century began amid a push for a rail-to-trail between Opelika and Roanoke, a rail line heavily used by the train engineer Johnny Ray. JRC riders will tour the true backroads of rural Lee, Chambers, and Randolph Counties of East Alabama. Adventurous gravel cyclists will be treated to some beautiful world-class gravel Chambers County dirt roads. Otherwise road surfaces vary from asphalt to chipseal.
- Tour de Fright
A haunted bike ride around the Opelika SportsPlex walking track. Each October families can bring bikes, trikes, scooters and strollers to view stagnant scenes positioned around the track.
- Victorian Front Porch Tour Ride
Take a self guided bike tour through the Victorian Front Porch Tour. Every December historic homes in Opelika's northside historic district are transformed into a colorful, nostalgic reminder of Christmas from a simpler era.
