Work sessions start times vary from 5:30 - 5:45 p.m. prior to the regular Council meeting depending on what must be covered. Times for each session are given in the agenda documents.

Anyone wishing to contact the any member of the Opelika City Council may do so by calling the City Clerk's Office at 334-705-5110.

Citizens Communications

Citizens are welcome at both of these meetings. Citizens are invited to voice their opinions at each council meeting. The only rule is that you must give your name and address, and you are limited to 5 minutes or less.

Both City Council Work Session and Council Meeting agendas are posted on the website on the Friday prior to Council meetings. Minutes are available following approval.

Members

Opelika is divided into five districts, with a council member elected to represent each district. Elections are held every four years. The Council elects a President and a President Pro Tempore to serve four-year terms.

Responsibilities

It is the Council's duty to approve annual operating and capital budgets, which are recommended by the Mayor, and to appoint members to various boards and agencies of city government.
