Business License Renewal
The City of Opelika Revenue Department sends out business license renewal packets by the end of December each year. If you had a business license during the previous year and do not receive a renewal packet, please contact the Revenue Department at 334-705-5160 or 334-705-5162.
If your business closed during the year, return the license renewal application with the words "Business Closed" written on it. If you are a contractor and do not anticipate doing business in Opelika in the coming year, write on the application, "No business at this time - inactivate license." This will keep you from being charged a penalty if you do get business later in the year.
Prior to commencing business in the City of Opelika, any company or individual conducting business must obtain a City of Opelika business license and complete a Business Registration form. All business licenses expire December 31 of each calendar year and must be renewed on an annual basis as long as the business is operating. Renewals are due January 1 of each calendar year and are considered delinquent after February 15 of the same calendar year. A business will be assessed delinquent charges on unpaid licenses.
Alcoholic Beverage Licenses
Alcoholic Beverage Licenses expire on December 31 of each year. They must be renewed no later than 4:30 p.m. on January 15 for the next year. Anyone selling alcoholic beverages after that date will be considered as selling alcohol without a license.
All other businesses have until 4:30 p.m. on or before February 15, of each year to renew their licenses.
Note: The first day of March is the business license delinquent date for renewals for insurance companies.
Note: License renewal applications will not be processed without the proper paperwork. Proper paperwork includes the forms mailed out in the renewal packets and any additional requirements for the particular license being renewed such as copies of bonds, certifications, etc. If your gross receipts are for part of the year your application needs special handling by the Revenue Department.
