It is the fervent belief of the officers at the Opelika Police Department (OPD) that everyone should get to go to camp at least once in their lives, so the men and women of the OPD do more than just talk - they put on a youth camp every year!
Camp Activities
Kids get to play games, swim, see demonstrations by the OPD's SWAT and K-9 teams, the Fire department, and the Opelika Light and Power Department as well. They also get to hear several motivational speakers, such as Tommy Agee (from Opelika Parks and Recreation Department), Judge Richard Lane, from the Lee County Family Court, and the OHS football players and cheerleaders.
All of these speakers talk to students about staying in school, staying drug free, and the importance of character. And no camp would be complete without campfire lunches!
