Each year the Opelika Police Department (OPD) hosts a youth camp on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the first week after school lets out for summer break. The students are those who have just finished 4th grade and are chosen by the school system.
Activities
At the OPD youth camp there are all sorts of fun activities for the youth and their camp counselors to do! Some of the things we have lined up for them include:
- Playing organized games
- Crafts
- Competitions
- Swimming every day at Covington Recreation Center
We also bring in guest speakers who talk to the students about the importance of staying in school, building character and making the right decisions in life. Several divisions of the OPD put on demonstrations for the students, and also provides lunch and several snacks throughout the day, courtesy of many area businesses and restaurants.
