Welcome from the Chief Shane Boyd

On behalf of the men and women of the Opelika Fire Department, I would like to welcome you to our department’s website. It is my sincere hope that this website will provide you the opportunity to connect with the Department and to gain a greater understanding of the services we provide our community. Take a few minutes to learn more about our department's structure, services, mission, history, goals and objectives.


The Fire Department is constantly training its own personnel and conducts an annual State Certified Fire Fighter Class which local and fire departments state wide can send personnel for training. Other programs offered by the Fire Department include a House Burning program for condemned property and fire prevention and safety training programs for area schools and civic groups.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the OFD is to protect life, property and provide an efficient, well-trained and highly motivated Fire and Rescue Service. This will insure the highest degree of protection to our community and its citizens.

General Information

The Opelika Fire Department serves an area of 55 square miles. The Opelika Fire Department is the primary responding agency for all fire, emergency medical and hazardous material calls that occur in the 55 square mile area. The following personnel and equipment accomplish this response.
