Fire Department

The Opelika Fire Department (OFD) consists of 68 state certified fire fighters, EMTs and paramedics, along with an office manager. OFD consists of four fire stations and a state approved training center. The Fire Department has a Class 2 ISO Fire Rating, which enables the city to enjoy lower insurance rates. OFD operates four front-run pumper trucks that also serve as Basic Trauma Life Support units, two Advance Life Support rescue trucks, a 100 feet aerial ladder truck, a HazMat response truck and forestry tractor.

Training

The Fire Department is constantly training its own personnel and conducts an annual State Certified Fire Fighter Class which local and fire departments state wide can send personnel for training. Other programs offered by the Fire Department include a House Burning program for condemned property and fire prevention and safety training programs for area schools and civic groups.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the OFD is to protect life, property and provide an efficient, well-trained and highly motivated Fire and Rescue Service. This will insure the highest degree of protection to our community and its citizens.

General Information

The Opelika Fire Department serves an area of 55 square miles. The Opelika Fire Department is the primary responding agency for all fire, emergency medical and hazardous material calls that occur in the 55 square mile area. The following personnel and equipment accomplish this response.
