What is Illicit Discharge?

"Anything which causes or contributes to pollution. Pollutants may include, but are not limited to: paints, varnishes, and solvents; oil and other automotive fluids; nonhazardous liquid and solid wastes and yard wastes; refuse, rubbish, garbage, litter, floatables; pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers; hazardous substances and wastes; sewage, animal wastes; wastes and residues that result from constructing a building or structure; and noxious or offensive matter of any kind."

Apply this definition of discharge to storm water or rainwater, not sanitary sewer.

Storm water is the rain that falls on your roof, sidewalk, yard or water that runs off a parking lot.

This training is written to raise your awareness of storm water and all pollutants.

You, your eyes and alerting city officials are Opelika’s first line of defense.
