About the Opelika City Council
Opelika is divided into five districts, with a council member elected to represent each district. Elections are held every four years. It is the Council's duty to approve annual operating and capital budgets, which are recommended by the Mayor, and to appoint members to various boards and agencies of city government. The Council elects a President and a President Pro Tempore to serve four year terms.
City Council Meetings
The City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall's Council Chambers, located at 204 South Seventh Street. Both City Council Work Session and Council Meeting agendas are posted on the website on the Friday prior to Council meetings. Times for each session are given in those documents. Anyone wishing to contact the any member of the Opelika City Council may do so by calling the City Clerk's office. Do you know your Ward and City Council Representative? Click here to find out.
