    Q.  How do I purchase a business license?
    A.  Business licenses are administered through the Revenue Department, located at City Hall (204 South 7th Street) in downtown Opelika.  For more information on the type of business license you will need call 705-5160, or visit the "Revenue Department" information page
    Q.  Where do I go to get building permits?
    A.  For building permits, call the Inspection Division located in the Public Works Department at 705-5420.  Someone there will be happy to walk you through the process.  You can also visit the Public Works Department section on this website for more information on the process of obtaining a building permit.
    Q.  Does the city offer business assistance?
    A.  Our Economic Development Department works closely with other agencies to assist in business plan development, general business counseling, finding the right location for new businesses wanting to get established in Opelika, and more.  Call 705-5115.

    A.  It is a license which gives the privilege to an employee to perform work for an employer inside the city limits of the City of Opelika.  It is payroll deducted and treated like a tax.  Not to be confused with an Occupational Business License which licenses a business for the privilege of doing business within the city limits of the City of Opelika.
