Southern Union State Community College located in Opelika offers technical training and college preparatory classes. Technical degree programs are offered in welding, electronics, and CAD/CAM systems. Southern Union also has an Industry Training Center available to help meet the needs of local industry. Southern Union's Instructional Divisions are composed of three distinct Divisions - Academic, Technical, and Health Sciences. The Opelika campus currently has over 4,000 students enrolled.

Our training covers the spectrum from the careful production of basic machine weights to operation of our multi-million-dollar Allen-Bradley PLC Servo unit , which provides programmable logic control and intelligent motion control for several manufacturing devices at once.
AIDT provides quality workforce development for Alabama's new and existing businesses and expands the opportunities of its citizens through the jobs these businesses create. AIDT is an institute of the State's Department of Postsecondary Education and encourages economic development through job-specific training.
