|Just a quick reminder to vote on February 13. This is a special election regarding a tax RENEWAL that is important and vital for our city, our school system and our business community. This is not a new tax -- it's a renewal. |
On February 13, 2018, the Opelika City Council will hold a special election to RENEW and continue the annual levy and collection of the 5 mill property tax for the support and furtherance of education in the Opelika City Schools. This property tax was first approved in 1965 and renewed in 1989.. This is an existing tax that has been in place for decades and the renewal will not increase the millage rate for Opelika residents.
In the current fiscal year, local revenue accounts for 40.7% of the 2018 general fund budget. This local revenue is critical to the continued support of programs such as:

February 8th is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot. You can do this in the City Clerks office at 204 South 7th Street, 2nd floor of City Hall. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on February 13.
